An IP address, or Internet Protocol address, is a unique numerical identifier assigned to every device connected to the internet. It is used to identify and communicate with devices on a network, allowing data to be sent and received between them. There are two main versions of IP addresses: IPv4, which uses a 32-bit address format and supports approximately 4 billion unique addresses, and IPv6, which uses a 128-bit address format and supports a virtually unlimited number of unique addresses.

An IP address does not inherently include any location data. Therefore, to determine the location of an IP address, it requires combining available data sources with advanced algorithms to make the best approximation possible. If an individual is using a VPN, proxy, or cellular network, the chances of incorrect location detection are higher compared to other scenarios. In most online frauds hackers use proxies, VPNs, Tor servers or other hosting services to hide their real IP addresses. The registered country is the location where the IP address is officially registered. The location from IP geolocation, however, is the region where the IP address is actively being operated. It is common for ISPs to use the IP address which has been registered in different countries.
The hosting likelihood is an estimation of the probability that you are currently using proxies, VPNs, Tor networks or hosted servers to surf the internet. It can be used to identify bot or proxy traffic that intend to carry out malicious operations.

An IP address is assigned dynamically or statically from your ISP providers. If it is static, you will need to reach out to your ISPs to change your IP address. If it is dynamic, which is the case of the majority of home internet providers, then it will depend on their policy.
The 'confidence' value is an innovative metric provided by BigDataCloud to provide an indication of the overall quality of data and IP geolocation accuracy. It is assigned one of three values: Low Quality, Medium Quality, and High Quality. However, it is important to note that a low confidence value does not necessarily indicate a lack of accuracy in IP geolocation. In fact, it may still be very accurate. Nevertheless, medium to high confidence values are more likely to suggest a higher level of accuracy or more reliable IP geolocation estimation.
