How an individual can update their location?

BigDataCloud IP Geolocation operates from an automated algorithm (patent-pending), which consolidates and prioritises information from a number of sources.

Therefore, we do not act on any request to update the data, stored and utilised in our IP Geolocation APIs.

However, we provide two ways for an individual to update their location.

Please note, either method is required to be performed on the actual network(s) that you wish to update, as it utilises the connection IP address for identification.

Method 1: Using a desktop or mobile browser to share your location

From the network(s) in question, visit our main website bigdatacloud.com and agree to anonymously share your location, the information provided (either by your browser, or your mobile GPS) will be incorporated into our IP Geolocation algorithm.

If you visit What Is My IP? page, you will be prompted to share your location and initiate the process.

If you have already agreed to share your location with us, you will not receive the above prompt. This is normal behaviour and the data you have provided will be utilised for ensuring accurate results for your IP address.

If at any stage you have said No to our location request in the past, and the prompt does not display, simply click on the secure badge/padlock in your browser's address bar and change the Location Allowed setting to Allow.

Method 2: Using BigDataCloud's mobile applications

We offer an advanced IP Geolocation and Network Information mobile application for both iOS and Android devices.

  • Install the applications on a mobile device connected to the network(s) in question.
  • Once installed, activate the IPv4 mapper, ensuring to accept any location request.

This will anonymously share the location of your device with our algorithm, allowing for accurate results.

With either method, sharing your location will provide our algorithm with the information required to accurately locate your IP.

Please note, any changes can take up to 24 hours to propagate to our global network of APIs.
